It’s Day 2 of the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
Mrs. Ttyymmnn sent me out yesterday morning to buy some bottled water, along with the rest of the city . Traffic was backed up onto the road outside Costco, and the parking lot was completely full. So I bailed on Costco and went to Lowe’s. Place was empty. Bottled water is pretty much completely sold out in Austin, but the stores are trucking more in today. We’re going to be relying mostly on boiled water. I’ve got five large water jugs full of boiled water, plus three pots on the stove already boiled. We brushed teeth last night with that water, and rinsed dishes with it. It struck me how doing this on a daily basis would reduce our water use significantly .

Showering is fine, using the dishwasher is mostly fine, if it gets hot enough long enough. I’m just assuming mine does. Hand washing is fine. You just can’t wash fruits/vegetables, cook with it, or drink it. If you are going to make noodles, for example, you have to boil the water for three minutes before you put the food in.

I have 600 litres of water in one-litre bottles put up for just such an exigency.

Yes. First time in the history of the Austin Water Works.

That’s what you get with a 1000 year flood, I guess. We were actually just down there visiting family (for my Dad’s 81st birthday), and the flooding and the decisions on the floodgates was a pretty big topic of conversation. Wild to see a place so wet that’s usually under drought.

Are they setting up any water buffaloes?

I guess it’s just Mother Nature balancing things out. There’s nothing wrong or broken with the water works. It’s just that, with so much trash and silt in the water, it takes longer to treat it. It will just take time for the system to get caught up. I wouldn’t be surprised if we go a week like this, maybe even more. There are more flooding rains forecast for tonight and tomorrow.

We’re not at that point, at least not yet. There is still plenty of water, you just have to boil it first. I heard on the news that they will be doing something like this at the county jails to provide for the inmates.

That’s kinda surprising. We had a boil advisory here last year at around the same time, and they had buffaloes out within 12 hours. Then again, that only affected 100k people or so, I can’t imagine what it’d be like trying to coordinate buffaloes for nine times that many.

Oh man, that’s terrible that more rain is coming. I do wonder if recent heavy rains are a sign of things to come for our part of the country, as the earth gets warmer.
Hope it’s not too long - definitely will make you appreciate it when it’s back to normal!

What the heck is a water buffalo? (Other than the quadruped herbivore)
